August, 2008

Brothers and sisters of Bricklayers Local #5, by the time you read this, our Financial Recording Secretary, Tom Cowan, will be enjoying the fruits of his laborious, strong, and responsible, PRO-UNION LIFE! Tom’s genuine love for all those willing to wok safely, neatly, and efficiently has been a gift to all of us throughout his forty-three years of service. Tom’s excellent craftsmanship will be enjoyed and marveled at for many years to come.

However, Tom HATES and despises hugs, kisses and compliments. He is, and has always been in the mindset that Bricklayers are supposed to be TOUGH! NO MUSH!  So, we, the members of THE BRICKLAYERS AND CRAFTWORKERS OF LOCAL #5 OHIO, would like to thank Tom’s beautiful wife Vicky, all the members of his family, and his friends for FINALLY talking him into retirement.

To our members who do not have a current drug free card: We are receiving word from our contractors that they will not hire anyone that cannot produce a current card. If your card has lapsed call Dave Wondolowski (216-780-8645) to make arrangements to be tested. As workers comp costs soar, more and more contractors will want a complete compliance to reduce their insurance costs.

The first regularly scheduled union meeting of the month of August, Wednesday, August 6, has been cancelled. The second meeting of the month will be held on August 20, 2008 at 8p.m., at 4205 Chester Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44103.

Bricklayers Local 5 Picnic

This year we finally had a nice day for the picnic. It was nice to see our members and families having a good time. Thanks to Bob Klimkowicz, Tom and Vicky Cowan and the Bricklayers Social Club for everything. Hope to see more of you at Clay’s Park next year.
