August 2011 Sisters and Brothers, Brother Sam Shelly and his wife Colleen are in need of our help. Colleen has been diagnosed with cancer and has undergone three major surgeries. Their medical bills are overwhelming. A dinner/dance party is being hosted by Sam and Colleen?s family to raise money to help pay their medical bills. Your $50 ticket includes a buffet dinner featuring Top Round Sliced w/Au Jus, Chicken Marsala, Parsley Buttered Redskins, Green Beans Almandine, Pasta Marina, coffee & mini pastries, beer, pop and wash. A 50/50 dinner raffle ticket is also available for $75.00. This is a B.Y.O.B. event. There will be side board 50/50 raffles and great prizes for auction. More details to follow?Save the date. Congratulations to Brother Dave Wondolowski who has been named Parma Democratic Party "Union Democrat of the Year". Best wishes for a speedy return to good health from the Local 5 members and Executive Board to Dave's father, Mr. Don Wondolowski. Congratulations to Brother Danny T. George for receiving his 50 year Gold Card Award this month.The officers and members of Local 5 thank you for your many years of service and dedication to our union and our craft. We wish you the very best of health and happiness. The members and officers of Local 5 offer our sincere sympathies to the families and friends of Brother Michael Karas, and Brother Andrew J. La Vecchia, the father of Brothers Nicholas and Andrew and the grandfather of Brother A.J., who passed away recently.
Pre-apprenticeship applications are accepted Mondays from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 5 Union Hall, 4205 Chester Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44103. A valid driver?s license and a high school diploma or G.E.D. must be provided prior to filling out an application. Please send your local monthly union dues ($21.00 per month) to the OADC Dues Processing Center, 5171 Hudson Drive, Hudson, Ohio 44236 or call 1-800-442-0479 to make checkless payments or to pay by credit card. Please do not send them to Local 5, as this may cause a delay which could result in you being dropped. Note: if signing as a new member or reinstating at the Hall, checks, money orders, or phone payments may be made. Sorry, but it is the policy of Local 5 to not accept cash. To make arrangements to be drug tested, call Safety Controls Technology at 216-587-3000. The Bricklayers Annual Golf Outing at Mallard Creek was Saturday, August 6th. Thanks to President Joe Coreno and Brother Stephen Hanlon for their time and effort spent co-chairing and working this event. A special thank you to all the supporters, sponsors, members, and contractors who took part in the outing. The North Shore AFL-CIO Labor Parade and Picnic is scheduled for Saturday, September 3rd in Parma Heights (exact times and locations to be announced). The Cleveland Building Trades Softball Tournament opens Thursday September 1st, at 6:00 p.m. Games will also be played Friday, September 2nd, starting at 6:00 p.m. The championship games will be played Saturday September 3rd morning and early afternoon, September 3rd. All games will be played at James Day Park, 11828 W. Pleasant Valley Road, Parma. The Union Construction Industry Partnership-Apprenticeship Skill Achievement Progam, in collaboration with the Cleveland Building Trades and Union Contractors have mezzanine tickets available for the Cleveland Indians vs. Detroit Tigers game at Progressive Field Tuesday, September 6th, at 7:05 p. m. for only $15.00 (reg. $20.00). $5.00 FROM EVERY TICKET PURCHASE WILL BE DONATED TO UCIP ASAP.
