A dedication ceremony was held at the Ohio Administrative District Council Regional Training Center in Hudson on May 9th in honor of former OADC Director Bob Fozio. The building is now known as the Robert A. Fozio Regional Training Center. Among those in attendance were Bob’s family, members of the International Executive Board including I.U. President John J. Flynn, OADC Director Ken Kudela, Local 5 President Joe Coreno, Congresswoman Betty Sutton, and a large gathering of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, contractors, and friends from everywhere. From the Executive Board and Members of Local 5, Congratulations, Bob. Your sincere dedication and hard work has benefited and continues to benefit all of us and shall never be forgotten.

 

Coinciding with the dedication ceremony was the 2009 OADC / BAC / IMI Apprentice contest. Congratulations to all contestants and to the following who qualified for the Regional competition in June.  Bricklaying: 1st place - Jamie Burrer. Cement: 1st place – Jon Mauer. Marble: 1st place – Michael Ward. P.C.C.: 1st place – Kent Reed, 2nd place – Bryan Burkhart, 3rd place – Paul Hayes. Stone 1st place – Chris Hoagland. Terrazo 1st place – Matt Neilsen. Good luck to all of you in the Regionals.

Local 5 would also like to thank and recognize the members who volunteered to serve as judges in the contest. They are: Pointers Cleaners Caulkers – Brothers Rick Shelly, Jon Sprachman, and Tim McKinney. Bricklayers - Brothers Bob Klimkowicz and Sal Filippelli. Terrazzo Workers – Brothers Tom Kudela and Eric McCullough.

 

The Members and Officers of Local 5 would like to wish a speedy recovery to good heath to Brother Rick Shelly who was injured in a car accident recently. A card, a call, or a visit would be a nice gesture for a guy who is always there for us.

MEMBERSHIP NEWS


 

Congratulations to Brothers Raymond Klaus and Edward Stroberg who will receive their 50 year pins and gold cards this month. Congratulations to Brothers Robert H. Addis and Phillip D. Colucci who will receive their 40 year awards. Congratulations to Brother Reece Ball who receives his 25 year award. The Executive Board and the Members of Local 5 thank all of you for your many years of faithful service and wish you the best.

 

The Members and Officers of Local 5 would like to extend our sympathies to the families and friends of Brother Dan Noonan, Brother Sam Immormino, and Brother Richard Berg, all of whom passed away recently.

 


Apprentice applications are still being taken Mondays and Tuesdays 8 – 11 a.m. at the Hall. If you know someone interested in learning the skilled trowel trades, have them call Apprentice Coordinator Anthony McCullough at the OADC training center at 330-463-5501.

Safety Controls Technology now does the testing, no longer Mobile Medical.

Social Club News
 

The Bricklayer’s Social Club Reverse Raffle was held on May 2nd at the Pipefitters Hall . The food, drink, and music were great. Thanks to all who attended and especially to those helped with this function like Tom and Vicky Cowan, Dave Wondolowski, Dave Shumney, Bob Parins, Ken Kudela, Laurel Neilsen, Gloria Kassay, Joe Coreno, Sal Filippelli, Jerry Scott and Norma Shymske. Hope to see more of you enjoy this fun evening next year.

 

The Cleveland Indians play the St. Louis Cardinals in an inter-league game at Progressive Field on Friday, June 12, at 7:05 p.m. and we are going! The price of $15.00 includes your ticket and the “all you can eat seat special” with fireworks after the game.     

 

The Family Picnic is Sunday, July 12 rain or shine at Swings-n-Things in Olmsted Falls. There are plenty of things to do outdoors and indoors there such as Go-carts, Mini- golf, Bumper Boats, Horseshoes, Laser shoot-out and more. Tickets are $20.00. Kids under 2 play and eat free. There is a Kid’s Korner indoor Play Area for “10 and unders” (socks required) .Beverages served at 11a.m.  Lunch served at 1p.m. – 2:30p.m. Wristbands good all day!   

 

The Golf Outing is August 1st at Mallard Creek. Tickets are $75 dollars which includes golf, a cart, lunch, steak dinner, pop, beer and door prizes. Hole sponsorship is available for only fifty dollars. 

 

The Retirees Club bus trip to The Meadows Casino is Tuesday, June 23rd. All Bricklayers, relatives and friends are welcome. The cost is $25 dollars per person which includes drinks, beer, pop, and water. You also get $20 dollars in free play at the casino. Meet at Lakefront Lines 1335 Brookpark Road across from Malley’s Chocolates at 8a.m. The bus leaves at 8:30 sharp for the 3 hr. trip with a stop.
