There will be a special called meeting Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at 7 P. M., at the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 5 Union Hall, 4205 Chester Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio, for the purpose of voting on an increase of the per capita tax to the Ohio State Building and Construction Trades Council.

The Members and Officers of Local 5 would like to extend its sincerest condolences to the families and friends of Brother and O.A.D.C. Director Emeritus Robert A. "Bob" Fozio who died April 14th, after a courageous fight with cancer. Local 5 was very saddened to hear Brother Carmen N. Palmieri , Brother William Scott, Brother Joseph Novak, and Brother Louis Appelbaum, also passed away recently. Please keep them and their loved ones in your thoughts and prayers. Local 5 extends its deepest sympathies to the families and friends of Brothers Leif and Cole Carlson, whose father Paul died, and Brother Mark Siders, whose mother Vivian also recently passed away.

The best of get well wishes for a speedy recovery goes out to all of our members who are sick or injured. Due to privacy and confidentiality laws the names of ill or injured members will no longer be published unless the member gives Local 5 the authorization to do so by contacting our office.
Congratulations to Brother Christopher Csensich, who will receive his 40 year service award this month, and the newest 50 Year Gold Card Life Members, Brothers John DiGiandomenico, Jim Barber, Louis Debeljak, Joseph M. Katkic Jr., John Rosset Raymond J.Pate, and Joseph S. Zumack. The Executive Board and members of Local 5 wish you the best of health and happiness, and thanks you for your many years of service and dedication to our craft and our union. Belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY wishes to Brother Matteo Summa who turned 106 years old on May 5th. His son Geno says he still takes care of himself and gets around pretty good.
After an opening day rain-out, the Cleveland Building Trades 2009 Division II Champion Bricklayers Softball Team picked up where they left off by winning two games at Brookside Park Sunday, May 2nd. Check the schedule at the hall or call Manager Mark Siders at 216-832-0418 and stop down to the ballpark on Sundays to root the team on! Pre-Apprentice applications are taken Monday mornings 8:30 – 10 a.m. at the hall’s front office or if you know someone interested in learning the skilled trowel trades, have them call Apprentice Coordinator Anthony McCullough at the OADC training center at 330-463-5501. A valid drivers license and a high school diploma or G.E.D. must be provided by the applicant in order to fill out an application. Should you not have a current drug free card, call Safety Controls Technology at 216-587-3000 to make arrangements to be tested.
