November 2011 In case you haven't heard...WE'VE MOVED!! The offices of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 5 and the Bricklayers Funds office moved September 30, 2011 to 6200 Rockside Woods Blvd. N., Suite 210, Independence, Ohio 44131. Local 5’s new telephone and FAX numbers are: Phone: 216-447-9965 and FAX: 216-447-9971 Local 5 Funds Office (Health and Welfare) new telephone number is: Phone: 216-520-1644 FAX: 216-520-1663 Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 7p.m., Local 5 had its first union meeting at the Pipefitters Local #120 Hall. The address is 6305 Halle Drive, Valley View, Ohio 44125. Future meetings and the Christmas party will continue to be held there (until our new hall is built) on the third Wednesday of each month, also at 7p.m. The Bricklayer’s Retiree Club Luncheon held on Wednesday, October 12th at St. John’s Event Center was quite enjoyable. President Joe Coreno welcomed everyone and introduced Mr. Jim Benedict of Congressman Dennis Kucinich’s office who was the guest speaker. Mr. Benedict offered Dennis’ services to us and said to call his offices if we were in need of any help on the local community level. Retirees President Geno Summa asked that we have a moment of silence for those Bricklayers who weren’t able to be with us on this day, and then proceeded to tell some great stories about the good old days. Geno also announced that his father, Brother Matteo Summa was 107 and a half years old and still doing very well. Field Rep Dave Wondolowski spoke about the importance of voting NO on issue 2. Meanwhile we were eating lunch. The food was delicious. The luncheon was catered by Alphonso’s of Middleburgh Heights, the same people who will be doing our Christmas party on December 21st. Thanks to Brother Colin Campbell and Brother Bob Klimkowicz for tending bar. Thanks to all retirees who came. To those who couldn’t make it, we sure hope you can next time. Please be sure to vote no on issue 2 to repeal Senate Bill 5, Tuesday November 8th. The time to fight back is now! We need to get every vote possible. We cannot afford to lose. Excuses are what got Kasich elected. Get out and vote! The members and officers of Local 5 offer our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Brother Robert Bittikofer and Brother Louis J. Zupanic, both of whom passed away recently. Our deepest sympathy to Brother John Petralia whose brother Charles died. We wish to extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Ms. Laurel Neilsen, our Local 5 Funds Administrator, whose husband Tim Neilsen passed away. Mr. Neilsen was the father of Brother Matt Neilsen and Jeremy Neilsen, to whom we also offer our condolences. Congratulations to Brother Johann Schmidt and Brother Thomas Chapman III who will receive their 50 year Gold Card Awards this month. Congratulations are also in order for Brother Lorin Sharpe who will be receiving his 25 year pin award, and to Brother Samuel Minardo who will recive his 40 year pin this month.
