We are on a count down to November 2^nd here in Ohio. All of Labor is in need of getting as many of friends, family and the people down the street to register to vote. (White and Blue Collar Voters) Around 35 % present of your money goes to taxes. That’s roughly equal to all the money you make in January, February, March and April. With the government taking that much dough, you might as well have some say in how it’s spent. IT’S CALLED VOTING.

Help our Union and help yourself. Get people out to vote. If you would like to help, call the Union Hall (216) 361-1652.

MEMBERS WHO HAVE PASSED

For the month of September we had 50-year Gold Card members pass away. Brother Richard Schlenkermman a 59-year member, Brother John Schuehrer a 60-year member and Brother George Nemeth a 56-year member. George was a long time Forman for the JL Foti Company. Brother Robert Coadys loving wife Beverly passed. A card or call would be welcome. From the Executive Board and all the Members of Local 5 we wish to extend our most heartfelt sympathies to their family and friends.

SERVICE AWARDS

For the month of October Brothers Professor L. Ashley, John Duldner and Ignatz all became 50-year Gold Card Life Members. From the membership and the Executive board we thank you for all your many years of service to our Union.

Congratulations to Brother Bob Komara and his lovely wife, Michelle, on the birth of a healthy baby girl, Krista.

Safety Training

Steward Training, Class will be held October 14^th 2006

These classes have dates pending:

Confined Space, Lock Out, Hazard Communication

Respiratory Hazards, Respirator Fit Testing & Training

All classes will be held at the NOADC Training Center 5171 Hudson Drive, Hudson Ohio 44236. For information contact the Safety Instructor Don Mays at (330) 382-9600.

APPRENTICE APPLICATIONS

Local 5 is currently taking applications for the Apprenticeship program Thursdays and Fridays from 8am 'till 12 noon at the Union Hall, 4205 Chester Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44103. We would like to thank everyone that attended the parade on a day calling for rain, and rain it did. Thanks to Mark Siders and Alex Rychlik all the members of our softball team and everyone that came to the games.

UNION MEETINGS are the first and third Wednesdays of the month at the Bricklayers Hall at 8pm.
