MEMBERSHIP NEWS

Thanks to all our members and families who participated and helped with this year’s Labor Parade and Picnic. Special thanks to OADC Director Brother Ken Kudela who drove the Robert A. Fozio Training Center’s flatbed truck (which doubled as a personnel carrier) in the parade. It was nice to see Brother John Kolesar driving his vintage Ford Pinto down Smith Road. It was also nice to see that President Joe Coreno brought plenty of candy so the children could have some too.

We knew they could do it! The Bricklayers Social Club Softball Team swept through the Cleveland Building Trades Labor Day Tournament Division II with a perfect 5-0 record at James Day Park in Parma. This was the first Local 5 Building Trades Softball Championship since 1994. The team also won the 2009 Men’s Sunday League American Division at Brookside Park. Both trophies are on display at the hall. Congratulations to Manager Mark Siders and all the members of the team, Brothers Frank Lash, Jerry Scott, Jon Orzech, Chris Greer, Chardon Black, Derek Deptowicz, Dan Frehmeyer, Scott Orzech, Jason Todorovich, Jeremy Casey, Bob Wertz, Mike Dodge, and Geno Summa on a SUPER season.

Local 5 would like to extend its deepest heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends of Brother Carl A. Reiman Jr. and Brother “Broadway Joe” Novich, both life members who recently passed away.

Brother Sacho Dotsef will receive his 25 year service award in October. Brother Raymond A. Dicallo, Brother Jack J. Guarino, and Brother Mike Lauber all become 50-year Gold Card Life Members this month. From the membership and the Executive Board, congratulations, and thanks to all of you for your many years of service to our union.

All active members and retirees were mailed a letter in September regarding the American Income Life Accidental Death and Dismemberment Benefit which was negotiated by the Executive Board and comes at no cost to you. Many of you have called to ask if this is “legit”. It is. However, several of the letters were returned by the U. S. Postal Service due to incorrect addresses.
