September, 2008 Our ancestors gave their blood, sweat, and tears so we could enjoy Labor Day. Rest assured that they are, or would have been very proud of all of you who participated in the past weekend’s festivities for working families. Thanks to all who marched for labor and to honor the late
Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones, in what was possibly
the largest Labor Day Parade in
Good job by our “ Boys of Summer” the Local 5 softball team led by Mark Siders. They played with fire and enthusiasm, won three games, and finished fourth in the Building Trades Labor Day Softball Tournament “B” Division. Thanks to all of their families and friends who came out to cheer them on. Also in sports, Steve Hanlon and Joe Coreno asked me to thank the contractors and suppliers who sponsored holes in the Bricklayers Golf Outing at Mallard Creek. Eighty golfers received prizes and all had a good time. Once again, excellent job, Steve and Joe. Congratulations to Brother John Kolesar and his wonderful wife, Mary who will celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary September 10th. John is recovering from knee replacement surgery, and could sure use a call, a card, or a visit from some of his old friends. Brothers and sisters please send your monthly dues to Ohio
Administrative District Council,
To our members who do not have a current drug free card: We are receiving word from our contractors that they will not hire any one that cannot produce a current card. If your card has lapsed call Dave Wondolowski (216-780-8645) to make arrangements to be tested. As workers comp costs soar more and more contractors will want a complete compliance to reduce their insurance costs.
