In the spirit of the organized labor movement, please remember to visit, call, or write our sick, injured, elderly, and bereaved brothers and sisters during this Labor Day season.

 

MEMBERSHIP NEWS

 

Brother Dante Raffin had double bypass surgery earlier this month. He is doing well. The members an officers of Local 5 wish you a speedy return to good health, Dante. 

 

For the month of September we have Brother Branislav Bajic and BrotherWilliam Rocha receiving their 40 year service awards. Brother Alvin J. Cox, Brother Roland H. Platzer, and Brother William Scott all become 50-year Gold Card Life Members. From the membership and the Executive Board, congratulations, and thank you for your many years of service to our union.

Apprentice applications are still being taken on Mondays 8:30 – 10 a.m. at the Hall. If you know someone interested in learning the skilled trowel trades, have them call Apprentice Coordinator Anthony McCullough at the OADC training center at 330-463-5501.

 

To our Sisters and Brothers who do not have a current drug free card, call Brother Dave Wondolowski at 216-780-8645 or Brother Vince Isaac at 216-780-8647. Safety Controls Technology now does the testing.

 

Union Meetings are on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month at 8 p. m. at 4205 Chester Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44103. Website - brick5@core.com

The Golf Outing August 1st at Mallard Creek was a huge success. Reports have it that everybody had a lot of fun. Thanks to Brother Stephen Hanlon , Brother Joe Coreno , and Brother Tom Nagy for their fine job on this event. Thanks to all the golfers who participated and to all those who sponsored holes for door prizes.

                                                                                                                                        

 

Are you looking for something to do this Labor Day weekend? Here are some suggestions: THE CLEVELAND BASEBALL FEDERATION AMERICAN DIVISION CHAMPION BRICKLAYERS  SOFTBALL TEAM will be playing in the 2009 Cleveland Building Trades Tournament at James Day Park,1182 W. Pleasant Valley Road in Parma. The double elimination tournament starts Thursday, September 3rd at 6p.m. and continues Friday September 4th with the final games being completed Saturday September 5th.  For more info call Manager and Brother Mark Siders at 216-832-0418. Get over to Parma and root for our team! This will be your last chance to see them this Summer. They’re good, and they’re are in it to win it!

 

North Shore AFL-CIO Labor ParadeSaturday, September 5, 2009. Step off from Brookgate Shopping Center, Brook Park promptly @ 10a.m. Food, family entertainment, and refreshments at the picnic immediately afterwards on the Brook Park City Hall Campus. Show your support for working  families and march with your union!
